Sialkot has been a centre of surgical instrument making for generations, and buyers from around the world source from it. With so many workshops and exporters, the difficulty is not finding a supplier but choosing the right one. This checklist covers what importers and distributors should ask before placing a first order.
1. Is the supplier a manufacturer or a trader?
Ask whether the instruments are made in the supplier’s own facility. A manufacturer can discuss forging, machining, finishing and inspection first-hand, and can usually adjust patterns, markings and packing. Visit the facility or request photographs of the production floor.
2. Material and finish
Ask which stainless steel grade is used for each product family, and how the instruments are finished (satin, mirror, or dull). Cutting instruments and non-cutting instruments are often made from different grades.
3. Quality documentation
Request the supplier’s quality system documents and any certificates they hold, and check that they are current. See our quality and certifications page for what we provide.
4. Inspection before dispatch
Ask how every instrument is checked: alignment of jaws and tips, smooth box-lock action, serrations meeting properly, and sharpness of cutting edges.
5. Samples and minimum orders
A reliable manufacturer will quote clearly on samples, minimum order quantities and lead times, and will state what is stock and what is made to order.
6. Private label and packing
If you sell under your own brand, confirm laser marking, packaging and labelling options before you order.
