The Kelly forceps is a general-purpose hemostat for occluding medium-sized vessels and holding tissue during dissection and ligation. Its jaws are serrated transversely on the distal half only, which gives a firm hold at the tip while the plain proximal section reduces crushing. The 16 cm Kelly-Rankin version offers the same jaw for slightly deeper fields.
Design features
- Transverse serrations on the distal half of the jaws for a secure, non-slip hold
- Three-position box-lock ratchet for graduated, reliable closure
- Box joint construction keeps the jaws aligned under clamping pressure
- Ring handles for one-handed opening and closing
- Curved jaws improve access and visibility around vessels and pedicles
Typical applications
- Clamping bleeding vessels prior to ligation or cautery
- Grasping and holding tissue and pedicles
- General, gynaecological and obstetric procedures
- Holding drapes, sutures and ties as an auxiliary clamp
Care
Process with the ratchet open. Do not use hemostatic forceps as needle holders or to grip hard objects, which spoils jaw alignment.
